Widespread protests in Syria’s coastal, interior regions against transitional govt. 

Hundreds of people took to the streets in response to a call by the head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, opposing the transitional government’s policies in Syria.

Protesters staged peaceful demonstrations under the slogan "We Want Federalism," emphasizing their commitment to dignity, political and civil rights, and rejecting violence.

The protests took place in the cities of Salhab and Wadi al-Uyun in western Hama, Wadi al-Dhahab in Homs, the Azahri roundabout in Latakia, as well as in Jableh and Tartus, where demonstrators raised slogans supporting Sheikh Ghazal’s demands, calling for the right to self-determination and rejecting any political marginalization.

In Banyas, government forces imposed strict restrictions on residents, with a heavy presence near the water authority and entrances to the Al-Qusour neighborhood to prevent any demonstrations. Simultaneously, supporters of the transitional authority staged gatherings at the Al-Zira’a roundabout in Latakia in an attempt to obstruct popular participation in the protests.

Incidents of assaults on protesters by supporters of the transitional government and groups affiliated with the so-called "Civil Peace Committees" were reported in Al-Qusour neighborhood in Banyas, Al-Zahra in Homs, Jableh, and Al-Zira’a roundabout in Latakia. These included physical attacks and arrests, in addition to preventing media activists from documenting the events.

Despite attempts at repression and restrictions, participants continued their peaceful demonstrations, raising slogans condemning violations and demanding an end to the attacks and the protection of civil and political rights.
