WHO delivers urgent medical supplies to NE Syria

The World Health Organization (WHO) has dispatched five trucks carrying eight tons of medical supplies to NE Syria to support hospitals amid warnings of a potential collapse of the health system.

The WHO announced the dispatch of an urgent shipment of medical supplies to areas in NE Syria in response to the growing health needs amid deteriorating living and medical conditions.

In a post on the “X” platform, the organization said that a convoy of five trucks had arrived in Qamishlo, loaded with more than eight tons of medical supplies and equipment taken from WHO warehouses in Latakia and Rural Damascus.

It explained that the supplies include cholera prevention kits, as well as emergency and trauma equipment, noting that they have been distributed to 11 hospitals and health partners in the region to help sustain essential health services for the population.

This move comes as the organization warns of a widening transitional funding gap in Syria’s health sector as the country moves from the emergency phase to recovery, a situation that threatens the complete collapse of the healthcare system.
