Water crisis deepens in Al-Hol

The town of Al-Hol and its surrounding rural areas are facing a severe water crisis as the continued disruption of drinking water supplies has further worsened living conditions for residents. The area relies primarily on the Allouk Water Station pipeline, which supplies water from the city of Hasakah to Al-Hol.

Although water pumping from the Allouk Station resumed on 22 July, supplies have yet to reach Al-Hol due to damage to the pipeline serving the town.

Residents say the area has suffered from chronic water shortages for years, and the prolonged suspension of water deliveries through the main network has deprived thousands of people of their primary source of drinking water, forcing them to seek costly alternatives.

With the disruption ongoing, many residents have been compelled to purchase water delivered by tanker trucks from the town of Tell Brak, located around 30 kilometres from Al-Hol. The long transport distance has driven up delivery costs, pushing the price of filling a five-barrel water tank to around 100,000 Syrian pounds; an amount beyond the reach of many families already struggling with difficult economic conditions.

Residents said the prolonged disruption has placed an additional financial burden on households already struggling with difficult economic conditions, urging the relevant authorities to intervene urgently and implement a lasting solution that guarantees access to safe drinking water.

They stressed that the only sustainable solution is to repair the damaged water pipelines and restore pumping from the Allouk Water Station. According to residents, reactivating the supply line would ease the financial and living pressures on local communities while ensuring a regular and reliable water supply to Al-Hol and its surrounding countryside.
