Vigil in Sweida demands resolution of prisoners' file

On Sunday, Sweida city witnessed a protest organized by the families of detainees and prisoners in front of al-Saraya building in the city center. They demanded information on the fate of their sons, their release, and accountability for those involved in smuggling prisoners.

During the protest, participants held banners calling for justice and an end to violations. They demanded the disclosure of the fate of all missing persons and called for legal accountability and transparency in the cases of detainees and prisoners.

The protesters called for holding accountable, according to established legal frameworks, all those proven to be involved in these cases, and putting an end to what they described as the ongoing abuses related to this issue.

These actions come amid the continued uncertainty surrounding the fate of dozens of civilians from Sweida Governorate, nearly a year after their abduction. This exacerbates the anger and resentment among their families, who insist they have no confirmed information about their whereabouts or conditions.

Tensions in Sweida escalated over the past weekend following the escape of three prisoners who were part of a planned exchange deal. This sparked widespread anger among the families of the abducted, prompting them to demand a transparent investigation and serious action to resolve this issue and reveal the fate of all those who have disappeared.

On Saturday, a number of relatives of the abducted and imprisoned blocked the Damascus-Sweida road near the village of Om al-Zaytoun, protesting the continued lack of information regarding the fate of their sones, while humanitarian cases and travelers with valid tickets were allowed to pass.

The protesters emphasized that this action aimed to exert pressure to uncover the fate of their imprisoned sons and to demand their inclusion in any negotiations or arrangements related to the issue, as well as their right to oversee them. They pointed out that their suffering has continued for months without any tangible progress.

The protesters threatened to escalate their actions starting tomorrow by completely blocking the road to all traffic in both directions until their demands are met and the fate of the abducted and forcibly disappeared is revealed.
