US military destroys ISIS weapons depots in southern Syria

US Central Command said on Sunday that it had carried out a large-scale military operation targeting weapons-storage facilities belonging to ISIS mercenaries in southern Syria, confirming the destruction of 15 sites during a series of airstrikes and ground demolitions conducted between 24 and 27 November.

The statement said that “the operation was carried out in coordination with partner forces in Syria, after identifying dispersed storage facilities across several areas of the Damascus countryside, where they were targeted with precise airstrikes followed by on-site demolition of additional locations detected during the advance.”

The statement added that the joint operation resulted in the destruction of more than 130 mortar shells and rockets, in addition to assault rifles, machine guns, and anti-tank mines, along with materials used in manufacturing improvised explosive devices.

CENTCOM confirmed that these strikes aim to limit ISIS’s ability to reorganize or carry out potential attacks in the region, noting that ISIS still poses a security threat despite its territorial decline in recent years.
