Unbearable situation due to severe siege imposed by Damascus Government
The administrator of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Afrin canton said that the siege imposed on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and al-Shahba canton came after coordination between Damascus and Ankara, and aims to disperse the displaced from Afrin canton who are in the besieged areas, to abort the right of return, and to change the demographics of the occupied region forever.
The interview of the administrator of the Democratic Union Party in Afrin canton came during a special meeting with ANHA agency, regarding the goals and repercussions of the siege imposed by the Damascus government on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and al-Shahba canton.
Valentina began her speech by pointing out that the Syrian crisis is getting deeper and deeper. Because authoritarian regimes have been unable to solve the problems they have been creating for more than 100 years, they find in deepening crises a way to continue their influence and authority based on oppression and undermining the rights of peoples.
She continued: "The existing conflict between national and global states has increased in our regions, which have become an arena for World War III. We did not work to take sides and adopted the third line based on relying on the power of the people and self-defense."
Stressing that they aspire to work to build a free, democratic, pluralistic, decentralized homeland, which makes them targeted by all countries hostile to democracy and freedom.
Valentina considered the attacks led by the Turkish occupation state to occupy Syrian lands, targeting the pioneers of the July 19 Revolution and the infrastructure, in addition to the Damascus government’s adoption of the siege on al-Shahba, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Ashrafieh, as part of a clear attack on the democratic project.
Valentina also pointed out that the government’s prevention of the passage of all essential materials for the maintenance of life; From fuel, flour, and medicines to the Al-Shahba District or the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, it will contribute to increasing the suffering of the people, especially in the winter, which has become more severe due to the cold weather.
As for the living conditions in many health, service and educational sectors, Valentina noted that the siege is now threatening the lives of the people after it caused the educational process to stop in al-Shahba and the power outage, affecting the people’s sources of livelihood and others.
Valentina believed that the timing of the siege, coinciding with the Turkish attacks and threats to North and East Syria, confirms the existence of coordination between Damascus and Ankara to increase the suffering of the people in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and al-Shahba canton.
She added: "The goals of both coordination parties are clear, which is to disperse all existing efforts to return the indigenous people to the occupied Afrin canton and foiling the right of return, because changing the demographics of the region is in the interest of both nationalist parties."
In the face of these attempts aimed at thwarting the people’s attempts to return and liberate their lands, Valentina said that the people are writing epics of sacrifice and resistance following the example of the thought and philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan.
At the end of her speech, Valentina said that continuing the blockade based on the immoral starvation policy will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.
