The United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Syria confirmed, in a report issued today, that the attacks launched by the Turkish occupation state on areas of North and East Syria amount to war crimes.

The report stated that the Turkish occupation army launched its attacks on the North and East Syria, especially on power stations, depriving one million people of water and electricity for weeks, in violation of international humanitarian law. Civilians have also been killed in targeted drone attacks. Such attacks may amount to war crimes.

The report also touched on the negligence of countries in dealing with the issue of ISIS children, in which committee member Lynn Welchman stated: “The world might very much like to forget this matter, but five years have passed since the liberation of Baghouz when ISIS lost control of areas in Syria, and about 30 people remain.” One thousand children are detained in detention camps, prisons, or rehabilitation centers in North and East Syria. These children were already victims during the rule of ISIS (ISIS mercenaries).”

“We urge all countries to allow children, including Syrian children, to return home immediately from the camps, while taking measures to ensure their reintegration into society,” said Lynn Welchman.

The Committee will submit its final report prepared under its mandate to the Human Rights Council on March 18.
