The UN migration agency said on Tuesday that nearly 7,900 people died or went missing on migration routes in 2015.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that its project specialized for missing migrants "documented more than 80,000 deaths and disappearances during migration since 2014."

The organization added that these figures "represent only the minimum of the true number affected, but nevertheless underscore the urgent need for action to end migrant deaths and address the complex needs of the families left behind."
