Turkish security forces arrest 6 citizens in Mardin, Amed

Turkish security forces raided a number of homes in the cities of Amed and Merdin in Northern Kurdistan, and arrested 6 people, in parallel with the ongoing protests against the Turkish authorities' decisions to dismiss mayors.

 ANF Agency indicated that one of the detainees, named "Mehmet Ateş" was severely beaten after being attacked by dozens of security personnel.

 These arrests were over protests against the appointment of trustees in the cities of Merdin, Eleh, Halvati, and Esenyurt in Istanbul.

 The last municipal elections were held at the end of last March, and witnessed the loss of dozens of municipalities by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to the Peoples' Democracy Party (HDP) and the Republican People's Party (CHP).
