On December 11, the US House of Representatives approved the Department of Defense budget bill for the fiscal year 2026, which included a clause to repeal the "Caesar Act" sanctions on Syria, with a vote of 312 in favor to 112 against. This paved the way for the legislative process to permanently repeal the act.

Two days prior (on Wednesday), the US Senate voted in favor of the final version of the same budget law and referred the bill to the US President Donald Trump for his signature.

Yesterday, Trump signed the law at the White House, making it effective and thereby formally including the complete repeal of the "Caesar Act," which had been imposed on Syria since 2019.
