Transitional government forces continue to violate truce in Sweida

Today, the western countryside of Sweida witnessed a new violation of the ceasefire agreement, as transitional government forces stationed in the village of Qarasa opened fire with heavy machine guns at civilian homes in the village of Najran.

This development follows a similar violation yesterday, when the town of Majdal was subjected to a coordinated attack from three axes, including the use of heavy machine guns and mortar shells. One wave of attacks originated from the town of Al-Mazra'a, where transitional government forces are stationed, while the other two axes came from positions west of Majdal, using heavy and medium machine guns towards the surrounding villages. Forces stationed in the villages of Rima Hazem and Mansoura also targeted civilian homes in the village of Atil with heavy machine guns.

In a related development, a video clip circulated on social media platforms yesterday sparked widespread anger. It documented the killing of a hospital volunteer by transitional government forces in mid-July after storming the hospital. Sweida has been experiencing a state of tension since bloody clashes erupted on July 13 between transitional government forces and affiliated militants on the one hand, and local Druze forces on the other. These clashes resulted in the deaths of 1,568 people, including 349 who were executed in the field. The clashes ended with an internationally sponsored ceasefire agreement on July 19.
