Transitional Government dismisses dozens of employees at Latakia Municipality

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the "Ministry of Local Administration and Environment," affiliated with the transitional government in Syria, issued a decision today to dismiss 78 employees from the Latakia Municipality, most of whom are Alawites. The dismissed employees described the decision as arbitrary, stating that it was made without taking into account their years of service or the difficult economic conditions the region is currently facing.

The employees called for a review and reversal of the arbitrary decision, affirming their right to job stability and the protection of their acquired rights, amid concerns about the impact of the decision on the economic and social situation in the city.

Earlier, in June, a protest was held near the Latakia Governorate building by a number of employees dismissed from the Directorate of Technical Services, objecting to their termination without receiving any official notice.

In recent months, the transitional government in Syria has dismissed dozens of employees from various state institutions, including Alawites, Druze, and Christians, on sectarian grounds. This has increased the hardships faced by employees amid the country’s severe economic crisis, alongside fears that such decisions will continue to be issued outside the legal employment framework.
