Transitional government attacks on Deir Hafar leave 9 martyred

Deir Hafar and its surroundings in Tabqa Canton, North and East Syria, witnessed a series of repeated attacks and assaults carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian transitional government from early August until September 23. These attacks targeted SDF positions and civilian-populated areas, resulting in casualties and intermittent clashes.

On August 2, these groups shelled areas of Deir Hafar with dozens of artillery rounds, prompting the SDF to respond to the sources of fire using heavy weapons in legitimate self-defense. The clashes subsided shortly afterward.

On September 11, a rogue armed group affiliated with the transitional government attempted to infiltrate the countryside of Tal Hafar city, southeast of Tabqa Canton, but SDF fighters successfully repelled them.

Escalation continued on September 20, when an unmanned drone operated by the militants targeted SDF positions in Deir Hafar, without causing casualties. On the same day, the armed groups carried out a dual attack using drones and heavy artillery on the village of Umm Tina, which resulted in the martyrdom of 8 civilians, including children and women, due to the direct targeting of their homes.

On September 23, the village of Zubayda came under heavy artillery fire from the transitional government’s groups, injuring four children with varying wounds. This was followed by a drone attack targeting an SDF position in Deir Hafar city, which resulted in the martyrdom of one fighter and the injury of another.

In an attempt to mislead public opinion, the Media and Communications Directorate of the transitional government’s Ministry of Defense issued a fabricated statement, distorting the facts regarding the attacks carried out by these rogue factions.

The SDF, in an official statement, reaffirmed their full readiness to confront any aggression, emphasizing that their response will be decisive against anyone attempting to target their positions and fighters.
