Traffic halted on Homs–Tartus highway following collision between two oil tankers

A traffic accident that occurred on the Homs–Tartus international highway, next to the Om Jame' Bridge heading towards Tartus, caused partial traffic disruption and rendered sections of the road impassable following a collision between two oil tankers.

The accident caused a significant amount of oil to spill onto the road surface, resulting in a large oil slick that obstructed vehicle traffic and led to severe traffic congestion at the scene, amid concerns that additional accidents may occur due to cars skidding on the oil-contaminated road.

Witnesses and road users reported that traffic flow experienced a significant slowdown, forcing several drivers to stop or change their routes while waiting for the spill debris to be cleared and the road to be made safe for passage.

As the oil slick persists, citizens and drivers have urged the relevant authorities and emergency response teams to take immediate action to remove the oil contaminants, clean the road, and reopen it safely. They warned of potential hazards that could endanger road users, especially given the heavy traffic volume on this vital route connecting Homs and Tartus provinces.

As of yet, no confirmed reports have been received regarding any human casualties resulting from the incident.
