Thousands in Jazira affirm ongoing struggle to build decentralized, democratic Syria

On Wednesday, thousands of residents of the cities of Dêrik, Girkê legê, Jil Agha, and Tel Koçer, along with representatives of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, political parties, clans, and members of social and service institutions gathered in Dijlah Park in Dêrik to express their stance on the new Syria.

The participants held banners with "No to massacres and killings based on identity," "We are all Syrians, owners of the land," "The democratic nation is the basis of life," and "Towards a democratic, decentralized Syria" written on.

They also held flags of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and pictures of the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The gathering began with a minute of silence. Then, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Perwin Youssef, delivered a speech in which she emphasized that the revolution in North and East Syria was launched and expanded by the will and hopes of the peoples and thanks to the enormous sacrifices made by them.

Perwin Youssef pointed out that the people were able to organize themselves and get rid of the shackles of oppression, relying on their deep faith in the approach and philosophy of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, who presented a project of peace and democracy for all peoples, with the goal of leading society towards justice and freedom.

She added, "We, the Kurds, embody this ideology, through which we were at the forefront of those who led the revolution for the freedom of societies, believing that true change stems from the will and solidarity of the peoples."

Perwin Youssef emphasized that the Syrian Democratic Forces were formed as a result of the  sacrifices of this people's blood. Therefore, the Syrian Democratic Forces represent this society, and that keeping up with the path of these forces is the right path.

Perwin Youssef explained that their struggle will continue until a democratic, decentralized Syria is built, one that embraces the will of all components and communities, and respects the sacrifices of the peoples during the revolution.

For his part, on behalf of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Kan'an Barakat emphasized that the region is going through a pivotal historic phase, especially in the Middle East and Kurdistan, and particularly in Syria.

Kan'an Barakat pointed out that this phase requires a wise and democratic policy, as emphasized by the leader Abdullah Ocalan in his directives, via which he called on the peoples to adopt the path of peace and democracy.

Barakat added, "We, in the Autonomous Administration, are pursuing this path in our organization, and believe that the democratic peace is the only way to build a new Middle East, based on the will of the peoples and their aspirations for freedom and justice."

Kan'an Barakat continued, "We call on all components and peoples in Syria to adopt the option of decentralization, and we emphasize that we are not seeking separation, as is rumored, but rather believe in the unity and solidarity of Syria. The gathering of thousands of people from various components is the best evidence of Syria's unity and the embodiment of the peoples' fraternity."

Barakat added, "When we provided aid to the Syrian coast and stood by the people of Sweida, we were practically affirming the unity of Syria, and we represent this unity through our cooperation with all components. The Syrian Democratic Forces, which liberated northern and eastern Syria, embodied the values ​​of humanity before the entire world when they eliminated ISIS and its extremist ideology, and prevented its expansion."

Barakat concluded his speech by saying, "We are fully prepared to participate in a comprehensive Syrian dialogue that includes all components, in order to draft a constitution written by the will of the people who have sacrificed to build a democratic, decentralized, and just Syria for all."

The rally concluded with slogans calling for a democratic, decentralized Syria.
