The museum was robbed yesterday, with the theft specifically targeting the Classical Section, one of its most valuable departments in terms of artistic pieces.

Details and the scale of the theft have not yet been disclosed, as authorities maintain strict secrecy over the ongoing investigation, which included detaining staff for several hours for questioning and reviewing surveillance footage.

The Classical Section is considered the museum’s most valuable, housing rare and precious collections representing diverse civilizations. The museum itself encompasses the contents of all Syrian museums, as most artifacts and antiquities were transferred there at the onset of the Syrian crisis 14 years ago.
