Ras al-Maara area in Damascus countryside, located on the Syrian-Lebanese border, is witnessing an escalation of security tensions between the Syrian Transitional Government Forces and the Lebanese army, amid mutual military buildups.

The tensions arose after a Syrian Transitional Government Forces' patrol prevented the Lebanese army vehicles from entering Wadi al-Thallajat area in the outskirts of the town of Flita. This was followed by an advance by Syrian Transitional Government Forces towards a military post used to be under the Lebanese army's control, located near the Lebanese town of Arsal.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the area was previously under the control of the former Syrian regime forces, and the Lebanese army later established a military post there.
