Teams continue clearing main roads to Serê Kaniyê of mines

As part of efforts to secure the main roads to Serê Kaniyê and facilitate the return of displaced residents, mine clearance operations are ongoing around the city of Serê Kaniyê and in the countryside of Tal Tamr and Zerkan.

The director of operations at Reacho, an organization working in the countryside of Zeekan, told ANHA agency that “the organization’s teams began clearing the main road leading to Serê Kaniyê, starting from the village of al-Asadiyah north of Zerkan, and the completion rate has reached around 30 percent so far.”

He explained that the clearance work covers a distance of about two kilometers, noting that the area was previously a frontline zone, which required a timeline of four to six weeks to complete the mine removal operations. He added that the duration could change depending on field conditions.

He emphasized that the current priority is securing the main road in order to reopen it and facilitate the return of displaced people to their city and villages, after which the teams will move on to clearing other villages and areas of mines.

In the same context, the Mine Advisory Group (MAG), which specializes in mine clearance, continues its work on the road connecting Tal Tamr and Serê Kaniyê. Meanwhile, the 60th Division is working to remove mines from villages and frontlines using a mine-clearing machine, as part of ongoing efforts to secure the area and reduce risks threatening civilians.
