Tarhin residents appeal to end blockade before Eid

Residents of the town of Tarhin and its surrounding countryside east of Aleppo called on the relevant authorities affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government on Monday to urgently intervene to end the blockade imposed on the area, as Eid al-Adha approaches and public frustration continues to grow.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), personnel affiliated with the Syrian Petroleum Company imposed a cordon around the area for reasons that remain unclear, while security measures at checkpoints were intensified and vehicles and passing families were subjected to inspections.

Residents said the restrictions have directly affected civilian movement, causing difficulties in transportation and preventing many families from leaving the area to secure Eid necessities.

The developments come after several people were injured on Sunday during a protest staged by owners of primitive oil refineries in rejection to a security campaign aimed at removing them. The protests later escalated into stone-throwing clashes between demonstrators and Internal Security forces before security personnel opened fire to disperse the gatherings.

The area is witnessing growing tension and public anger, amid warnings that the situation could further escalate if the current measures continue without swift solutions.
