Syrian Transitional Government Agency announces its refusal to participate in Paris negotiations

A short while ago, the Syrian Transitional Government's official news agency, SANA, reported, citing what it called an "official government source," that the government refused to participate in the upcoming negotiations in Paris with representatives of NE Syria.

The official claimed that the conference held in NE Syria "does not represent a comprehensive national framework," that it is "an attempt to internationalize Syrian affairs, invite foreign intervention, and reimpose sanctions," and that it contradicts the March 10 agreement between the government and the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

He claimed that the conference "dealt a blow to ongoing negotiation efforts," announcing that the government "will not participate in any meetings scheduled in Paris."

Contrary to his previous statements, the official said, "The state calls on international mediators to transfer all negotiations to Damascus."

The conference, held yesterday in the city of Hasaka in North and East Syria, under the title "Unity of Position of the Components of North and East Syria," was preceded by media reports of Turkey's efforts to obstruct negotiations between the transitional government and representatives of North and East Syria in Paris. This occurred during a surprise visit by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Damascus and his meeting with Ahmed al-Sharaa and his foreign minister.
