The Director of the Civil Status Department in Syria, Abdullah Al-Abdullah, denied that a specific date had been set so far for beginning the issuance of new identity cards and family booklets, explaining that reports claiming they would begin being issued as of next month are inaccurate.

Al-Abdullah said in a statement to the “Syria Now” platform that the department is working to prepare the infrastructure required for issuing the new documents in accordance with international standards, in addition to adopting an immediate issuance system and modern biometric verification technologies.

He pointed out that the new system will rely on registering citizens’ biometric data, which will enable the development of the mechanism for issuing personal documents and enhance its level of accuracy and security.
