Symposium held in Derbasiyah discusses gender intolerance

The Young Women's Union in Derbasiyah city held a dialogue seminar that addressed the issue of gender intolerance, where the participants discussed the most prominent reasons for the spread of these ideas within society, and the negative effects they have on the role and status of women. They also touched on ways to limit them by spreading awareness and promoting a culture of equality.

The Young Women's Union organized a dialogue seminar on gender intolerance at the Democratic Society Academy in the city of Derbasiyah, with the participation of a number of women from civil society organizations and councils.

The seminar began with holding a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a reading of assessments of the leader Abdullah Ocalan by teacher Gulê Khalil.

During the seminar, a video was shown addressing the issue of violence against women, emphasizing the need for women not to remain silent in the face of injustice, and the importance of confronting all forms of violence and defending their rights.

During the lecture, Stera Ayo; the administrator in the Women's Council of the Intellectuals Union in Jazira, addressed the topic of gender intolerance, explaining that it is based on bias or negative discrimination based on gender, often stemming from stereotypes that promote the superiority of one gender over another, usually in favor of men. This leads to the restriction of women's and young women's rights and limits their social and professional opportunities.

She explained that gender intolerance can be addressed by raising societal awareness of the concept of equality, correcting stereotypes associated with gender roles, and empowering women and supporting their participation in various fields. She added, "Enacting and implementing laws that criminalize discrimination, and strengthening the role of the family and the media in spreading a culture of respect and equality, are essential steps to reduce these problems and build a more just and balanced society."

She also emphasized the importance of women's self-awareness and enhancing their active role in society.

The seminar concluded with an open discussion among the attendees, during which diverse opinions were expressed regarding gender intolerance and ways to limit it, with an emphasis on the importance of awareness and collaborative action to confront this problem and mitigate its effects.
