The Ministry of Justice under the transitional government announced today the formation of an investigation committee for the recent Suwayda massacres, which resulted in dozens of victims by government-affiliated forces. The decision was met with widespread skepticism on social media, given previous similar experiences, most notably the investigation committee for the recent coast massacres, whose results were deemed unsatisfactory and failed to hold any party accountable despite documented violations.

Activists fear that the Suwayda committee may be merely a formality, similar to the committee formed for the Syrian coast massacres. The death toll from the recent military escalation in Suwayda has risen to over 1,470 people, including civilians and individuals executed in the field, reflecting the scale of the humanitarian disaster and severe violations witnessed in Suwayda and its countryside since mid-July.
