Sit-in outside Austrian Parliament calls for leader Ocalan’s freedom

The sit-in began with a minute of silence in honor of those who died in the struggle for Kurdish freedom, followed by remarks from Kurdish journalist and politician Binyad Jazeri, who spoke about leader Ocalan’s resistance in Imrali Prison and his role in advancing a project for peace and a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue.

He said the peace and democratic solution project represents an opportunity to address outstanding issues, stressing the need to apply the “Right to Hope” law to leader Ocalan and enable him to play a role in advancing the peace process.

He noted that Kurdish activities in Kurdistan and abroad continue to demand the leader’s physical freedom, while also referring to activities in Rojava calling for the right to education in Kurdish.

He said Rojava had made major sacrifices, arguing that its revolution was not only political, social and a women’s revolution, but also a revolution to protect language, culture and identity. He added that “language is identity” and that the Kurdish people would not accept abandoning their identity under any circumstances.

A member of the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe also addressed the gathering, affirming the continued support of Kurds and their friends around the world for leader Ocalan’s ideas and philosophy. She stressed the importance of applying the “Right to Hope” law, describing it as a legitimate right grounded in international principles, laws and standards.

She said Kurdish women and people around the world influenced by Ocalan’s ideas would continue their activities and campaigns until his physical freedom is achieved.

The sit-in concluded with chants calling for leader Ocalan’s physical freedom and the implementation of the “Right to Hope” law in his case.
