Security chaos in Transitional Govt- held areas

In the Damascus countryside, a retired assistant from the Border Guard Forces (“Al-Hajjana”)—a member of the Alawite community—was killed last night after unidentified gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire on him in front of his home in the Al-Dimas housing area, killing him instantly.

Local sources reported that the assailants knocked on his door around 11 p.m., asked about another person, and then suddenly opened fire on him as he opened the door.

In Hama province, an officer with the rank of colonel from the Transitional Government forces survived an assassination attempt after unknown attackers threw a hand grenade at his car in the village of Taltoot, east of Salamiyah. The attack caused no injuries, and the perpetrators managed to escape.

These incidents come as part of a series of assassinations and attacks that have occurred in areas controlled by the Transitional Government in recent weeks. Among them was the killing of a member of the so-called “General Security” in the Maarrat al-Numan countryside, south of Idlib, on October 11, in an attack carried out by unidentified gunmen.

These ongoing developments have heightened local fears of expanding lawlessness, as insecurity persists and accountability remains absent in the areas under the Transitional Government’s control.
