Second forum of PYD Women’s Council kicks off in Hasakah

As part of the sixth phase of the campaign against violence against women, launched by the PYD Women’s Council on October 8, the council organized its second forum today under the slogan “A free, dignified life guarantees the building of a communal democratic society,” with the participation of 180 male and female delegates at the Samarkand Hall in Hasakah, in the Jazira Canton.

The forum is also attended by representatives of the Autonomous Administration, the Syrian Democratic Council, political parties, women’s organizations and unions, the Internal Security Forces, in addition to legal, cultural, and other figures.

The forum opened with a moment of silence in tribute to the martyrs. Afterwards, the spokesperson for the PYD Women’s Council, Horiya Shamdeen, delivered the opening speech, stating that the forum is a step toward dismantling authoritarian mentality, and striving to build values on a new foundation based on brotherhood, equality, and coexistence.

She stressed that a free, dignified life is not just a slogan, but a lived reality in every home, commune, and democratic institution in which women participate as leaders and decision-makers.

Horiya Shamdeen noted that the July 19 Revolution proved that women are not shadows of history, but rather write it with their blood, thought, and dignity. Women have been at the forefront of every social transformation that plants hope and builds society on freedom and shared responsibility.

She pointed out that Leader Abdullah Ocalan raised the banner of peace and democratic society in a world increasingly beset by wars and conflicts, as a human choice to save humanity from the cycle of destruction.

She emphasized that this forum serves as a platform for dialogue and constructive criticism and for strengthening communal and democratic life in daily practice, aiming to enhance collective will to build a society worthy of the sacrifices of martyrs and the struggle of women. She added that Leader Ocalan outlined the features of a free and dignified life, affirming that there can be no freedom in a society that excludes women, and no democracy under male-dominated authoritarian mentality.

Horiya stressed that women’s struggle for freedom is a struggle for all humanity and for a society in which all wills unite to build a future based on freedom for everyone.

The forum will discuss two main themes. The first will focus on the “clique killer” in the Manifesto for Peace and Democratic Society, presented by the co-chair of the Foreign Relations Council in North and East Syria, Nourshan Hussein. The second theme will address political and social solutions necessary to achieve equality and justice, to be delivered by the PYD co-chair, Berwin Yousef.

Both themes will be discussed and a final statement will be issued at the conclusion of the forum, according to the program.
