The SDC issued a statement today to the public regarding the "Constitutional Declaration" for the transitional authority in Damascus, which consists of a preamble and four sections. The statement read:

"Statement to the public regarding the draft constitutional declaration submitted by the Interim Government

We, in the Syrian Democratic Council, categorically reject the constitutional declaration presented by the interim government. As stated in our previous statement dated February 26, 2025, what was called the 'National Dialogue Conference' was not fair in representing social components or political entities. The SDC affirms that any outcomes based on this conference will fail to address the national issue adequately.

This draft reproduces authoritarianism in a new form, as it entrenches centralized rule and grants the executive authority absolute powers while restricting political activity and freezing the formation of political parties, thereby obstructing the path to democratic transition. Furthermore, the draft ignores the absence of clear mechanisms for transitional justice, which deepens the national crisis.

We strongly reject any attempt to reestablish dictatorship under the guise of a 'transitional phase.' We reaffirm that any constitutional declaration must result from genuine national consensus and not be imposed unilaterally. Accordingly, we call for a redrafting of the declaration to ensure a fair distribution of power, guarantee political freedom, recognize the rights of all Syrian components, and adopt a decentralized democratic system with clear mechanisms to achieve transitional justice.

Syria is a homeland for all its people, and we will not accept the rebuilding of a tyrannical regime."
