SDC: Kobani Resistance embodies Syrians’ will to build inclusive nation

The Council emphasized that the city of Kobani, through the blood of its sons and daughters, wrote a new chapter in the history of freedom and human dignity, becoming a beacon that illuminated the path of struggle for dignity and democracy in Syria and the region.

In a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Kobani Resistance, the Council said: "On the first of November each year, Syrians, along with the free people of the world, recall the International Day of Kobani, the city that, through the blood of its sons and daughters, wrote a new chapter in the history of freedom and human dignity.

On this day, we remember the epic resilience shown by our people in Kobani in 2014 against the terrorist organization “ISIS,” when the small city became a global symbol of resistance and victory over the forces of darkness, and a beacon that illuminated the path of struggle for dignity and democracy in Syria and the region.

Kobani’s victory marked a pivotal moment in the war against terrorism and proved that the will of free peoples is capable of defeating the most violent extremist forces.

The Battle of Kobani was not merely a defense of geography but a defense of human values and a democratic national project that believes in equality and pluralism, reflecting the will of Syrians to build a nation that embraces all its citizens without discrimination. From the heart of this battle emerged the experience of autonomous administration, as a successful model of community governance based on justice and participation, and a real framework for national unity in facing both terrorism and tyranny.

As the SDC commemorates this glorious epic, it reaffirms its steadfast commitment to continue the struggle to achieve a decentralized democratic national project that ensures justice and equal citizenship, and preserves the country’s unity based on freedom and diversity. It also renews its pledge to protect the gains achieved through the martyrs’ blood and to continue efforts through Syrian-Syrian dialogue towards a comprehensive political solution that expresses the aspirations of all Syrians to build a state of law and institutions.

While security and political challenges persist, the threat of terrorism in all its forms continues to endanger Syria’s stability and unity. In this context, the role played by the regions of North and East Syria is particularly significant in protecting security and stability through the Democratic Autonomous Administration model, which has proven effective in preserving coexistence and fostering citizenship and national responsibility.

The SDC pays tribute to the souls of the martyrs of Kobani and all those who sacrificed for Syria’s freedom and unity. It calls upon all Syrian people, with all their components and identities, to uphold the spirit of solidarity and resistance embodied by Kobani, and to work together for a shared democratic future that honors their sacrifices and preserves the dignity of the nation and its people."
