SDC briefs Swedish Ambassador on Council’s efforts for Syria’s future

The Syrian Democratic Council's websites published a meeting that brought together representatives of the council and those in charge of the Swedish embassy, ​​and explained that it came in response to an invitation from the Swedish embassy in Lebanon and Syria.

According to the website, a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council consisting of the Deputy Co-Presidency of the Council, Ali Rahmoun, and a member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Change Movement under the umbrella of SDC, Ziad Watfa, met in Damascus with the Chargé d’Affairs of the Swedish Embassy, ​​Ms. Jessica Svardstrom, in the presence of the Political Secretary of the Embassy, ​​Ms. Alice Wadstrom

The meeting focused on developments in Syria in general, highlighting the situation in the north and east of the country. The Swedish Ambassador inquired about the course of the ongoing dialogue and negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Council and the Syrian Democratic Forces and the administration of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, in addition to the relationship with and dialogue with Turkey

During the discussion, the SDC delegation pointed out that “Syria is going through a transitional phase characterized by great challenges, as a result of the lack of clarity in the future vision of the new administration in Damascus, in addition to the need to develop work mechanisms that keep pace with the political, social, and economic changes that the country is witnessing.”

The delegation stressed "the importance of achieving concrete steps that contribute to strengthening confidence between the various parties, with the need to address some issues related to governance and administrative organization to ensure stability

The delegation expressed "its concern about some decisions and trends that may affect vital sectors, such as the military institution and public jobs, noting the importance of addressing these issues in a way that achieves justice and maintains the cohesion of institutions."

The delegation added, "There are challenges related to external interference, especially from the Turkish side, which directly affects the stability of NE Syria. It was also warned of the ongoing media incitement by some parties linked to Turkey, which aims to undermine security in the region by mobilizing against SDF

The website reported that the Swedish ambassador stressed “the importance of dialogue as a basic way to resolve the Syrian crisis, expressing her concern about the risks threatening stability in the country, including the possibility of a return to escalation in different regions.” She indicated that Sweden will work to support the Syrian issue through the European Parliament, which contributes to strengthening efforts to achieve peace and stability.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ambassador stressed "the importance of continuing cooperation and communication between the two sides," stressing that "Sweden will remain a supportive partner for the Syrians in their endeavors to build a democratic state that includes everyone and guarantees the achievement of stability and development."
