SDC affirms rejection of foreign interference, calls for inclusive national dialogue

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), in a statement issued following a council meeting, affirmed that a Syrian–Syrian political solution remains the only viable path to ending the conflict and building a pluralistic, democratic, decentralized state that preserves the country’s unity and guarantees the dignity and rights of all its citizens without discrimination.

The Council noted that the rapid developments unfolding in Syria necessitate a shift from merely managing the current reality to actively contributing to the establishment of a state based on citizenship and the rule of law. Such a state, it stressed, must be founded on a comprehensive national pact and a fair partnership that ensures lasting stability.

The SDC firmly rejected all forms of foreign interference in Syrian affairs, as well as reliance on any regional or international party at the expense of national sovereignty. It emphasized the importance of building balanced relations with regional and neighboring countries on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests.

The Council reiterated its support for the success of the January 29 agreement, describing it as a step toward de-escalation and the opening of a path toward a comprehensive political process. It also expressed its readiness to engage positively with all initiatives that reinforce Syria’s unity and advance a sustainable political solution.

In its statement, the Council outlined several key priorities, foremost among them the development of its organizational and political structures in line with the new phase, and active participation in drafting a national pact grounded in Syria’s unity land and people and in a state of equal citizenship and democratic decentralization.

The SDC further stressed the necessity of constitutional recognition of the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people, alongside the protection of the cultural, linguistic, and national rights of other Syrian components, including Syriac-Assyrians, Turkmen, Armenians, Circassians, and others.

The Council underscored the importance of full and equal participation of women in political life and decision-making, as well as the empowerment of youth and their inclusion in all stages of the political and societal process.

The statement also called for supporting the establishment of a unified, professional national military institution through an agreed-upon integration process, and for adopting transitional justice mechanisms to address the legacy of the past, uncover the truth, provide reparations, and foster societal reconciliation. It stressed the need to create conditions for the safe and dignified return of displaced persons and refugees.

Moreover, the SDC called for a comprehensive Syrian national dialogue that ensures the participation of all forces and components without exclusion or marginalization, alongside urgent efforts to improve living and service conditions through support for relief initiatives, reconstruction, and early recovery programs.

The Syrian Democratic Council concluded its statement by reaffirming its constructive engagement in shaping Syria’s future and dedicating its full capacities to a comprehensive national project aimed at building a modern, democratic Syrian state independent in its decision-making and responsive to its people’s aspirations for freedom, justice, and stability.
