Sanharib Barsoum confirms that  Syrian forces reject unilateral management of stage

The Syriac Union Party held a series of meetings in the Syrian capital Damascus, and met with a delegation from the Druze community in As-Suwayda. The party's co-chair Sanharib Barsoum spoke to ANHA's agency about their tour.

The visit had several reasons; from an organizational standpoint, the goal of the Syriac Union Party's visit to Damascus was to open an office for the party there, and to begin organizational and political work in the Syrian capital Damascus. Sanharib Barsoum said: "At this stage, we can expand gradually to all regions, and Damascus is the main point of political work now."

Sanharib Barsoum explained: "We notice during this period that there is political activity in Damascus, and all political forces, even those that were working abroad, are now working in Damascus, and it is now the center of political gravity in Syria."

Barsoum confirmed: "On the other hand, we seek to make our party active among our people in Damascus, and later in the rest of the Syrian regions."

During the visit, an office for the Syriac Women's Union Party was also opened in Damascus, and Barsoum noted that the party has an office in Homs Governorate.

The Syriac Union Party held several political meetings in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the party also met with clerics in churches and various sects there. Barsoum said: "The meetings that took place with all parties of the Syriac and Christian component in general are very important to unify the vision in this stage that all Syrians and Syria in general are going through."

The Syriac Union Party met with several democratic political forces and important political parties in Damascus, and this is the first time the party has met with them, and Barsoum described the meetings as very important. The goal of them is to exchange visions among them; The Syriac Union Party also visited the office of the Syrian Democratic Council, in addition to various political figures.

Sanharib Barsoum stressed that the overall visions regarding Syria are unified, and include accelerating the transitional process in Syria, and that there should be partnership in this stage, and everyone rejects the continuation of managing the stage by one party, and everyone stresses the importance of holding a national conference and the importance of achieving fair and real partnership within the conference, and everyone is waiting for the conference in its correct form; and moving to the transitional stage.

Sanharib Barsoum explained that different ideas were discussed with the forces and parties they met, regarding the importance of national and religious pluralism and ensuring the rights of the components and the decentralized system for Syria.

The Syriac Union Party visited the city of As-Suwayda and met with Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri and some figures in the city. Barsoum said: "We exchanged ideas, and they have ideas very close to our ideas, in terms of nationalism, pluralism, and the rights of the components, and that Syria should be built on the foundations of a pluralistic, decentralized democracy, and that all of these concepts serve the Syrians in general."

Barsoum stressed that the meetings that took place between these political forces are very important and have political weight in this stage that Syria is going through.

Barsoum noted that there are very important political entitlements, such as drafting the constitution and employing and establishing the points that they are seeking within the new constitution. He said: "There are other important entitlements such as elections, leading the new stage, and forming a transitional government, so the political forces must prepare well for this stage, and there must be effective representation of these democratic forces in Syria."

Senharib Barsoum stressed that they, as a party, will have frequent visits as necessary to Damascus or to the rest of the Syrian provinces, and said: "There are other entitlements within the framework of the Syrian Democratic Council and preparations for activities, including holding a consultative meeting in Damascus in the coming period."

The Syriac Union Party is one of the active parties within the Syrian Democratic Council, and has a close relationship with the Syrian National Alliance and the Syrian Democratic Alliance.
