"risk of igniting war remains, society must protect itself”

Intellectual and human rights activist Gulal Kasani spoke to ANHA agency about the current situation in the region, the attacks that fall under the category of a “special war” against the will of the people of Rojava, and the requirements of this stage.

Kasani reminded us that Syria, and Rojava in particular, has recently witnessed major changes, and pointed out that the threats against Rojava have not yet ended, coming from both within and outside the region. He pointed out that the Syrian Interim Government has not yet officially and constitutionally recognized Kurdish rights, confining them instead to a "decree" lacking firm legal standing. He added, "Because of this legal deficiency, the threats persist."

Kasani explained that the ongoing "integration" processes have fostered a sense of security among the Kurds, leading to a decrease in the general mobilization. He cautioned, however, that "given the recent changes, Kurdish society, the political movement, and the military forces must remain vigilant and prepared for self-defense. There is significant diversity in Rojava, and the risk of instigating an internal war between Kurds and Arabs remains. However, I believe that Kurdish politics, diplomacy, and officials have effectively managed to thwart attempts to deepen the conflict in the region."

In conclusion, Kasani emphasized that the Kurds in Rojava must maintain their unity, transcending ideological differences, and establish an "official Kurdish authority" at both the political and military levels. He pointed out that the Middle East is experiencing conflict and wars, and that the Kurdish role, especially in Eastern Kurdistan will have a direct impact and repercussions on Rojava and Southern Kurdistan as well.

Gulal Kasani (Talal Hussein) is a multi-talented intellectual and literary figure, combining the roles of a prominent intellectual, writer, poet, and lawyer. His literary output includes two poetry collections titled "Azadi" and "Bagir," and he has enriched the research library with three important works on history and heritage: "The Origin of the Kurds and Their Historical Presence in Western Kurdistan," "The Kurds in the Course of History," and a study titled "Myth in Kurdish Heritage."

On a professional and institutional level, Kasani is a member of the Bar Association in Qamishli and a member of the Kurdish Writers Union in Syria. On the media and academic side, he presents the program “The Situation and Thought” (Rewş û Bîr) on Rojava TV, and works as a teacher at the Faculty of Law at Rojava University, where he made a qualitative legal contribution by translating the “Penal Code” adopted at Damascus University from Arabic to Kurdish, in addition to his continuous writing of intellectual articles in many magazines and newspapers.
