Rising abductions in Sheikh Maqsood, Ashrafieh, Interim Govt. blocks media access

Militants of the Interim Government in Syria are preventing media outlets and civilians from entering the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo, amid reports of widespread arrest campaigns targeting the neighborhood’s residents.

Sources reported that the detainees were taken to unknown destinations, amid an atmosphere of tension and fear prevailing in the area.

Local committees from Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh have recorded the loss of contact with more than 271 people.

Since January 10, neighborhood residents have been posting on social media about losing contact with their relatives, both those inside the neighborhood and those who left, documenting the cases with names and photos.

Reports have also emerged of militants from the Interim Government carrying out executions of residents within the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.

Local sources told ANHA agency that the militants arrested hundreds of residents from neighborhoods that had been subjected to days of systematic shelling over the past two days, with women being taken to mosques and men escorted to unknown locations.

Yesterday, the Kurdish Red Crescent announced that militants of the Interim Government had abducted three of its members in the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood of Aleppo, noting that efforts are underway to contact international organizations to intervene for their release, holding the Interim Government fully responsible for the safety of its members.
