Rioting in Hasakah’s peace square ahead of Syrian flag raising event

Peace Square in the center of Hasakah witnessed acts of rioting by a group of people shortly before an event organized by the relevant authorities in the city to raise the Syrian flag in the square.

According to ANHA correspondents at the scene, a number of people attacked the Kurdish symbols located in the square and smashed informational signs written in Arabic, Kurdish, and Syriac. They also damaged security surveillance cameras, caused disturbances, and attempted to assault members of the Internal Security Forces deployed at the site to secure the event.

The event is taking place alongside an inciting online campaign on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, targeting Kurdish symbols and opposing the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which have joined the Syrian army.

These events coincided with the completion of preparations in Peace Square, amid the deployment of Internal Security Forces to organize the event and maintain security and stability.

At the same time, the Internal Security Forces Command in Hasakah Governorate issued a circular calling for compliance with public security and safety measures during gatherings.

The command stressed that carrying weapons or setting off fireworks during gatherings is prohibited, and called on people to refrain from any conduct that could disrupt security or endanger the safety of citizens.

The Internal Security Forces Command emphasized that it would take the necessary legal measures against violators, stressing that it would show no leniency toward any violations or breaches.
