Right to Hope to leader is a core for ensuring success of peace process

The inhabitants of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo stressed the importance of providing Abdullah Ocalan with the “right to hope,” enabling him to steer the peace initiative he launched on February 27, which aims to establish a democratic society and bring an end to decades of conflict.

In this context, Amina Hassan, a resident of the neighborhood, explained that through his call for peace and a democratic society, Abdullah Ocalan has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to pursuing peace and building a community based on justice and democracy.

Amina Hassan added, “This call marked a turning point in the struggle, transitioning from armed conflict that lasted over half a century to a new phase grounded in dialogue, integration, and transformation pillars essential for achieving stability and restoring historic relationships.”

She further noted that the Turkish state has taken no tangible steps in response to this call, underscoring the crucial need to grant Öcalan the right to hope as a key entry point to the success of the peace process.

Meanwhile, citizen Moulida Muhammad emphasized the importance of the Turkish government approaching the peace call and the democratic society vision from a different perspective, urging it to abandon hostile policies and release Abdullah Ocalan, viewing him as the key to achieving meaningful change. She added, “The leader has always advocated for peace, yet the opposing side delays and stalls, obstructing the progress of the process.”

Moulida Muhammad affirmed, “We will not back down; we will continue to demand the leader’s freedom and escalate the pace of struggle.”

Citizen Hassoun Muhammad asserted that granting Abdullah Ocalan the “right to hope” is essential for leading the peace process, correcting its course, and transforming an era of bloodshed and arms into a new chapter based on dialogue and understanding. He clarified that Ocalan has offered clear visions and directives for managing the peace process; however, the Turkish state has shown no shift in its mindset, undermining trust and revealing a lack of genuine intent to reach a true resolution.
