IDPs Serê Kaniyê protest against Turkish occupation violations in their city

Dozens of forcibly displaced individuals from the occupied city of Serê Kaniyê gathered this afternoon within Newroz Camp to participate in a protest march condemning the violations of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in their city. They carried banners reading: "Yes to the Brotherhood of Peoples and Coexistence," "No to the Settlement of Mercenary Gangs in Serê Kaniyê," and "No to the Sale of the Properties of Serê Kaniyê 's People."

The march started from the center of the camp and proceeded to its entrance, with participants chanting slogans demanding the right to return to their homes.

The march halted at the camp entrance, where participants observed a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs. Subsequently, Ahmed Mohammed, a displaced resident of Serê Kaniyê, delivered a speech reaffirming the rightful claim of the people to safely return to their homes. He condemned the violations perpetrated by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries against civilians' properties and criticized attempts to legitimize the confiscation of these properties under the pretext of "purchase."

Mohammed called on international organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and intervene urgently to ensure the safe return of the residents to their city, and to put an end to the demographic change policies implemented by the occupying Turkish state.

The march concluded by affirming the displaced people's unwavering commitment to their right of return and their categorical rejection of all practices of the occupation.

In this context, the displaced people of Serê Kaniyê staged a march from in front of the Washukani Camp Council in al-Hasakah, which culminated in a protest stand before the camp’s administrative center. During the event, the displaced representative Nawaf Hussein delivered a speech on behalf of the Serê Kaniyê displaced community, condemning the ongoing violations against the indigenous population. He stated that "the occupying Turkish state is conducting a systematic demographic change in the region aimed at erasing the Kurdish presence and its cultural identity," noting that these policies began in 2019 and have been accompanied by widespread displacement of the native inhabitants.

He expressed his indignation over the raising of the Turkish and Pakistani flags over the city, considering it a provocation to the sentiments of the displaced and an endorsement of the occupation. Hussein said: "We will never accept this; the Turkish state has violated all human and legal rights."

Concluding his speech, Nawaf Hussein called on international organizations to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and to intervene urgently to halt these measures, ensuring the protection of the cultural and national rights of the Kurds. He emphasized that "the struggle of the displaced will continue until a safe return to their homes is achieved."

The marches concluded with a reaffirmation of the displaced people’s steadfast commitment to their right to return and their categorical rejection of all occupation practices.
