Rainfall floods tents of displaced people from Serê Kaniyê in Hasaka

Displaced people from Serê Kaniyê in the Serê Kaniyê and Washokani camps in Hasaka city are facing dire humanitarian conditions due to continuous rainfall since Saturday. Most tents have been flooded, with rainwater seeping inside and dozens collapsing. Furniture has floated to the surface and been damaged, coinciding with a severe shortage of humanitarian aid. Municipal workers and service committees are attempting to help move tent furniture, clear drainage channels, and re-erect damaged tents.

Humanitarian aid provided to the displaced has been reduced to a minimum of 15%, according to a previous statement to ANHA agency from the Serê Kaniyê camp administration.

The tents have not been replaced for six years (since their forced displacement from Serê Kaniyê in 2019) after its occupation by Turkey and its mercenaries, the so-called "Syrian National Army." All the tents are now worn out and uninhabitable.

The Serê Kaniyê camp houses approximately 2,574 families, comprising 15,734 individuals. Washokani camp houses approximately 2,500 families, comprising 1,700 individuals.

Yesterday, the Committee for Displaced Persons from Sere Kaniye issued an urgent appeal for assistance due to the heavy rains affecting the region, which have caused significant damage to the Washokani and Serê Kaniyê camps, home to thousands of forcibly displaced people
