Raid, arrest in Masyaf, Hama countryside amid escalating violations

Sources told ANHA correspondent that units affiliated with the Syrian transitional government raided, late last night, the home of the young man Sakher Ismail in the city of Masyaf, Hama countryside, where they arrested him after subjecting him to insults and verbal abuse, while pointing firearms at him.

The sources confirmed that the forces stole the contents of his car, while throwing some packs of cigarettes onto the ground and refusing to take them on the grounds that they were “haram.”

In another related incident, the forces raided a school in the town of Jubb Ramleh, in the Masyaf countryside, and demanded that the educational staff provide the names of teachers who participated in the strike called for by the head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council, Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, on December 10. The strike came in response to a series of events described by residents of Hama as “humiliating,” raising fears of possible future targeting.

These developments come as part of a recurring pattern of violations. Last month, a patrol carried out a raid in the village of Al-Sawma’a in the Masyaf countryside, during which members of a family were beaten and threatened, in addition to having their property stolen.
