providing health services to over 1,000 displaced people each month

The Kurdish Red Crescent Center provides healthcare services to more than one thousand displaced patients from Girê Spî/Tal Abyad camp each month.

At the beginning of October, the Kurdish Red Crescent opened a new health center to deliver medical services to residents of Girê Spî/Tal Abyad Displacement Camp, who had long suffered from a lack of proper healthcare. Previously, medical services in the camp were limited to those provided by the IRC medical center and a small clinic run by the Autonomous Administration, which only offered first aid.

The new Kurdish Red Crescent Center offers medical consultations, treatment, and medications, particularly for women and children. It has also allocated an ambulance to transport patients to nearby hospitals in Ain Issa and Raqqa, ensuring improved access to emergency care for camp residents.

Mahmoud Al-Omar, an administrator at the Kurdish Red Crescent medical center, stated:

“The Kurdish Red Crescent responded to the appeals of the camp administration and displaced residents to strengthen healthcare services after their prolonged suffering from limited access to treatment, which was previously confined to basic consultations and first aid, without providing medications.”

Al-Omar explained that the center now treats over 1,000 patients each month, including approximately 600 children under the age of 15 and 450 women.

He added that, in addition to its permanent presence inside the camp, the center’s medical teams conduct two weekly field visits to nearby villages to provide healthcare services to local residents.

Girê Spî/Tal Abyad Displacement Camp, established by the Autonomous Administration on November 22, 2019, hosts around 7,000 people who were forcibly displaced from the city of Girê Spî/Tal Abyad following its occupation by Turkish forces and their allied militias. Camp residents continue to face difficult living and humanitarian conditions as a result of displacement and the loss of their livelihoods.
