Protesters in Hasaka rally against new constitution

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, activists in the city organized a protest against the "constitutional declaration" issued by the Damascus Authority, which has been criticized for sidelining the rights of other Syrian groups, including the Kurds.

Dozens of activists and residents gathered at Martyr Serhad Square in the Mufti neighborhood, holding banners with slogans such as "No Constitution Without the Kurds" and "Kurdish Rights are the Only Guarantee for Syrian Unity." Other slogans called for federal pluralism and emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among all Syrian communities.

The event began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a speech from activist Barzan Suleiman. He noted that "the constitution was signed by the Damascus Authority without any representation of the other Syrian components."

 He pointed out the absence of representation for groups such as the Kurds, Syriacs, and Armenians during the drafting of the constitution.

In conclusion, Suleiman affirmed that the constitutional declaration is rejected by all Syrian components as it does not reflect their will and rights.
