Protest held in Qamishlo demanding release of prisoners

On Monday, families of prisoners held a protest in front of the UNHCR office in Qamishli, demanding the immediate release of prisoners detained by the Syrian Interim Government since the beginning of January 2026.

A large crowd of families participated in the protest, holding up pictures of their sons and banners that read: "Our cause continues until the last prisoner is freed," "The mothers of the prisoners are waiting for news... Don't let them down," "I want my son," "Our prisoners' freedom is our freedom," "We are all with the prisoners until the end," "The prisoners' voices will not be silenced," "Freedom for all prisoners... Silence is betrayal, and every prisoner has a story." "Let it end in silence."

During the vigil, participants chanted slogans demanding the immediate release of the prisoners, including: "We want our prisoners, we want our sons."

The vigil concluded with a speech delivered on behalf of the prisoners' families by Youssef Kouti, who stated that the prisoners still being held urgently require their release, questioning the reasons for the continued uncertainty surrounding their situation.

He added that their sons had been martyred for this revolution, while others had been arrested, appealing to the interim government for the immediate release of the prisoners.
