Practical measures expected within hours in response to Leader Ocalan’s call

Today, practical measures are being taken in Southern Kurdistan in response to the latest call by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who urged the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and armed forces to engage in politics away from armed struggle. This comes as part of his “Peace and Democratic Society” call launched on February 27 of this year.

Southern Kurdistan, particularly Sulaymaniyah province, is witnessing practical steps being carried out by the People's Defense Forces and the PKK, which had previously announced its dissolution and the end of armed struggle on May 12 of this year, as a result of its 12th congress.

According to ANHA correspondents, the measures include a statement to be delivered by military forces and other military-related procedures, affirming their commitment to Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call.

The practical measures, scheduled to take place at 12 noon today, will be attended by dozens of journalists, intellectuals, and politicians, as well as representatives from various political parties, organizations, and civil society groups from Kurdistan, Turkey, and across the world—most notably, the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM).

These steps come in response to Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s “Peace and Democratic Society” call issued on February 27, and his latest video message delivered on June 9 of this year.

The process began with Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s announcement on February 27, in which he stated:

“The second century of the Republic cannot achieve unity and lasting continuity unless it is crowned with democracy. Without democracy, there is no path to seek or implement systems; it is impossible. Democratic consensus is the fundamental method. In this process, I call for disarmament and take historical responsibility for this call.”

In his latest appeal, Leader Abdullah Ocalan said in a video message: “My belief lies in politics and societal peace, not in weapons. I call on you to implement this principle.”
