Popular condemnation of attacks on civilian convoys at Tishrin Dam

Angry popular reactions continue against the brutality of the Turkish occupation, which has launched repeated attacks on civilian convoys heading to Tishrin Dam for protection duty. The latest attack resulted in the martyrdom of some civilians and the injury of others.

Ain Issa

The Ain Issa City Council issued a public statement, read by the council’s co-chair, Sabri Nebo, in the presence of dozens of employees from council institutions and departments, as well as representatives of political parties and women's organizations in Ain Issa.

The statement began by saluting the resistance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) at Tishrin Dam and on all fronts where heroic resistance continues against Turkish occupation attempts and its mercenaries.

The statement highlighted the brutality of the Turkish occupation, targeting unarmed civilian convoys, resulting in martyrs and injuries on January 7 and again on the evening of Wednesday, January 15. The attacks were described as “war crimes against humanity.”

It affirmed that “the Syrian people have chosen resistance and struggle against the brutal Turkish war machine” and called for escalating popular resistance until the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries are expelled from all Syrian lands.

The statement concluded with slogans praising the resistance of the SDF and the courage of the resisting civilians.

Tal Koçer

The T Koçer City Council in the Jazera Canton also issued a statement, read by the council’s co-chair, Nawaf Al-Khaddaan, in front of the Tal Koçer City Council building.

The statement strongly condemned “this blatant attack targeting civilians to prevent them from reaching Tishrin Dam.”

It praised “the free will of our people, who continued their march to the dam despite threats and dangers, raising their voices in rejection of these attacks.”

The statement called on “the International Coalition, the United Nations, international and local humanitarian organizations, and all humanitarian actors to take urgent action to protect the dam from shelling and attacks and to put an end to the systematic assaults on vital infrastructure in North and East Syria.”

Dêrik

In response, hundreds of residents from Dêrik and the villages of Koçerat and Berav staged a demonstration condemning the massacre committed by the Turkish occupation against the civilian convoy. They chanted, “We are all SDF,” in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The demonstration began at Freedom Square on the Ain Diwar road, moving through the main streets, with participants chanting slogans condemning the massacre and supporting the SDF. They carried SDF flags and banners reading “We are all SDF” and “Hand in hand with the Syrian Democratic Forces.”

Upon reaching the central market, the demonstration turned into a protest, starting with a moment of silence. Then, the co-chair of the Dêrik People's Municipality, Jowan Hassan, delivered a speech denouncing Turkey’s massacre of civilians who were trying to protect their children and Tishrin Dam.

He condemned “the silence of international powers regarding Turkish attacks” and reaffirmed “the continuation of resistance and support for the SDF.”

The demonstration concluded with chants of “Resistance is life” and “Long live SDF resistance.”

Girkê Legê

Similarly, hundreds of residents from Girkê Lêgê in the Jazera Canton held a massive demonstration, chanting “We are all SDF.”

The demonstration started from Martyr Khebat Roundabout, marching through the city’s main streets while carrying SDF flags and banners that read: “Don’t kill children” and “Long live the Syrian Democratic Forces.”

Upon reaching the central market, the demonstration turned into a mass gathering. Participants observed a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. Then, a representative of the Democratic Union Party, Idris Ahmed, spoke about the importance of struggle and resistance in the region, calling on “international powers to intervene and hold Turkey accountable for its actions.”

Idris Ahmed emphasized “the need to strengthen resistance in cooperation with military forces,” stressing the commitment to “protecting the achievements made through the sacrifices of the martyrs.”

The demonstration concluded with chants of “Long live SDF” and “Resistance is life.”
