Politician: Syria should be politically decentralized

Politician Saleh Darwish called for the implementation of political decentralization in Syria, explaining that applying a centralized system would turn the new regime into a dictatorial one like the previous regime. He also noted that Turkey wants to impose its hegemony more on Syria

The Secretary of the Progressive Democratic Party of Syrian Kurdistan, Saleh Darwish, noted that Syria has entered this phase due to a dictatorial regime that lasted for about fifty years, where this regime was individualistic, did not accept the participation of the people in anything, and starved the citizens while ignoring their demands.

Darwish pointed out that this regime, which was ruled by a single party, led to the accumulation of resentment among the Syrians, prompting them to revolt in 2011 in search of salvation.

Darwish touched on the mistakes of the so-called opposition that contributed to the regime's continued rule, especially after the intervention of some countries that supported the regime. He confirmed that the regime's allies, such as Russia and Iran, are no longer able to defend it as they once did.

Regarding the internal situation, Darwish considered that: "The regime's style of governance has turned the country into a center for drugs and gangs, which made Syrians indifferent to who would come to power after him. Therefore, they celebrated the regime's downfall and contributed significantly to achieving it."

Saleh Darwish pointed out that: "The army did not defend the country due to the Syrians' discontent with the regime that turned the homeland into its private farm."

In the context of discussing the future situation in Syria after "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" took over administration in some areas, Darwish mentioned that "a new interim government has been formed, led by a person accused of extremism, and this has become a reality."

Darwish warned that "things could get complicated if Hayat Tahrir al-Sham does not change its ideology and abandon its radical character," and emphasized that "imposing the Idlib model on all of Syria would not align with the aspirations of the Kurds, Christians, Druze, Alawites, and a large part of the Sunnis."

Darwish also called on "al-Julani to translate his statements about protecting all components into tangible actions," and emphasized that "Syrians must reject war and demand the stability of the country, and that Syria should be for all Syrians and not be tied to one party or a specific ideology."

The Turkish intervention is an occupation.

Darwish spoke about the regional interventions in Syria, specifically addressing the role of the Turkish occupation, which has intervened previously and occupied many areas. He said, "It is the most intervening country in Syria, and its intervention was not just a passing one but an actual occupation."

Darwish pointed out that Turkey is currently seeking to increase its dominance over Syria and attempting to replace Iranian influence with Turkish influence, which is no longer acceptable to either the Arab countries or the Syrians themselves. He pointed out that "Turkey

Speaking on the vision of what the best-suited solution should be in place after the overthrow of the Ba'ath RegimeDarwish made a concentrated call for emphasis: "On the necessity to transition to a decentralize system so Syrians may practice self-management and that there was a need for discussion and negotiation amongst all Syrian parties, determining what sort of governance needs to be determined and not making a new centralist dictatorial state would be constructed for it would not realize stability."

Saleh Darwish explained that Syrians have become completely convinced that Syria should be politically decentralized, which guarantees the protection of their rights and enhances the status of their state.
