Political Activist: Ignoring March 10 Agreement threatens Syria's unity

Al-Hadi highlighted that the obstacles to implementing the March 10 agreement stem from a prevailing mindset of exclusion and unilateralism within the Transitional Government, warning that neglecting the agreement threatens Syria’s unity and deepens divisions.

The agreement, signed on March 10, 2025, consists of eight articles aimed at organizing the relationship between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Transitional Government. It also seeks to rebuild a comprehensive political process based on participation, ceasefire, and the integration of civil and military institutions within the state framework.

Regarding the agreement, al-Hadi told ANHA Agency: “This agreement is important because it emphasizes the basic rights of citizens—rights that are inherently natural and do not require formal agreements to be recognized. However, authoritarianism has made such agreements necessary.”

He pointed out that the lack of tangible progress in implementing the agreement and in rebuilding Syria is due to the dominant mindset of the Transitional Government, which is rooted in authoritarianism, unilateralism, and exclusion.

On how to ensure the establishment of a democratic Syria, al-Hadi added: “Protecting Syria as a state and its people—as a political entity—requires either the removal of the terrorist government that currently controls power or amending the constitutional declaration to build a state of citizens, not a transnational Islamic emirate.”

He noted that the Transitional Government’s motives in signing the agreement with North and East Syria are temporary, saying: “The Islamic Emirate controlling Syria signed the agreement with the SDF to divert attention from coastal massacres and obscure them, creating the illusion of stability, while pursuing a repressive, authoritarian rule.”

Al-Hadi concluded with a warning about the consequences of the Transitional Government avoiding its commitments: “The likely alternative is either the collapse of the Salafi authority in Damascus or its automatic breakdown. More likely, however, is the redrawing of Syria, creating a new political and geographical map based on the independence of the country’s components.”
