People's Hospital opens in Qamishlo

The Health Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Jazira canton opened The People's Hospital, formerly known as (The National Hospital)," in the city of Qamishlo, after its rehabilitation and restoration completed. The hospital's opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Jazira canton, the councils and bodies of the canton, the Elders' Council, a number of doctors, in addition to the Health Authority in Jazira canton, and various components of Qamishlo city. The attendees presented wreaths of roses to the Health Authority, expressing their congratulations on the occasion of the hospital's opening.

The hospital will provide its services free of charge, as it includes 12 departments;

Internal medicine, intensive care, burns, orthopedics, urology, otolaryngology, neurology, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, laboratory, and radiology, in addition to outpatient clinics with 10 departments staffed by 10 physicians.

The hospital employs a specialized medical staff of 60 specialist physicians and 60 general practitioners. The Health Authority has also provided the hospital with 250 nursing and administrative staff.

The Health Authority equipped the hospital with a number of modern devices, among them a CT scanner, an MRI machine, X-ray machines, surgical and gastrointestinal endoscopy equipment, a lithotripsy machine, and six dialysis machines with their own desalination units.

The hospital comprises 220 beds, five ambulances, and a pharmacy stocked with free emergency medications.

All services at the hospital are provided free of charge, except for CT scans and MRIs, which will be offered to patients for only a quarter of the cost.

The hospital aims to provide healthcare services to the residents of Qamishlo city and its surrounding countryside, whose population exceeds half a million.

The hospital's opening ceremony began with holding a minute of silence. Then, Hassen Sherro, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Jazira canton, paid tribute to the doctors who sacrificed their lives to save civilians from the battlefields to the Tishrin Dam. "We remember all the martyrs of freedom with reverence and bow for their greatness," he said.

Sherro described this day as "distinctive and historic for Jazira region in general, and the city of Qamishlo in particular," noting that the hospital's opening embodies the Autonomous Administration's determination to escalate the struggle to provide the best possible services to the people of Jazira region and North and East Syria.

Sherro emphasized that the Autonomous Administration is committed to its tireless work to serve this noble and resilient people, who have made immense sacrifices for freedom and dignity.

For his part, Mohamed Jamil, the administrator in the Martyrs' Families Council of Jazira region, affirmed that what has been achieved today is the fruit of the martyrs' sacrifices. He said, "Thanks to the blood of the martyrs, we have reached this stage, where we have been able to build our institutions, councils, and organizations that extend from the Tigris to the Euphrates. Dozens of institutions have been established thanks to the martyrs' sacrifices."

Jamil added, "We hope that this hospital will serve our people like never before, and that all our institutions will proceed on the right path, ensuring service to this steadfast and resilient people."

Dr. Jwan Hami, the Director General of the People's Hospital in Qamishlo, spoke about the suffering of the region's people when it was under the control of the former regime. He said, "The regime prevented me from speaking Kurdish, and the hospital director used to expel us, and security forces used to prevent us from entering the hospital."

Hami expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the hospital's opening and pledged to live up to the martyrs' immense sacrifices and to bear the responsibility of serving our people with utmost dedication.

After the speeches concluded, the families of the martyrs cut the ribbon, officially opening the hospital. The attendees then toured the hospital to learn about its departments, facilities, and the medical services it will provide to the residents.
