Kongra Star announces solidarity with Sudan's women, calls to end war

The Democratic Political Relations and Agreements Committee of the Kongra Star affirmed that the resilience and struggle of Sudanese women for a dignified life and human dignity is an extension of the struggle of free women worldwide, declaring its support for all women in building a society based on equality and security, free from violence and oppression.

This came in a statement of solidarity issued by the committee on Wednesday at the Kongra Star Center in Corniche neighborhood of Qamishlo, in Jazira canton of North and East Syria, with the participation of members of the Kongra Star, members of the Democratic Union Party, and representatives of women's organizations, movements, and civil society in Qamishlo.

The statement was read by Ronahi Hassen, the spokesperson for the Democratic Political Relations and Agreements Committee of the Kongra Star, and it stated the following:

"We, the struggling women of Kongra Star in Rojava/North and East Syria, raise our voices today with heavy hearts, in solidarity with every woman in Sudan, especially with the women of El Fasher who are experiencing the most horrific moments of their lives under the weight of brutal violence, murder, systematic rape, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, and the displacement of thousands. What the women of El Fasher have endured is not merely aggression, but a crime against humanity, a deliberate genocide of women, and a direct attack on every society striving for freedom and justice. Your suffering is ours, and we share your pain, fear, and heart-wrenching despair. We are determined that the world's silence will not go except your voices are heard, and that injustice will not continue to threaten your lives with impunity.

We believe that women are the heart and backbone of society, and that women's freedom and independence are the cornerstones of every free and just society. Under these difficult circumstances faced by women in El Fasher, it becomes their duty, and the duty of all free women worldwide, to protect themselves and their existence. Protection is not achieved solely through reliance on others, but through building strong women's organizational networks that unite women in every neighborhood of cities and villages, establishing practical protection mechanisms that include self-defense, collective safety points, documentation and monitoring, and the provision of psychological and material support to survivors and those affected. Women's social and feminist organization is not an option, but a means of survival and preserving a dignified life in the face of injustice and oppression.

We affirm that women's struggle against occupation, violence, and authoritarian mentality cannot be an individual endeavor; it is a collective struggle that demands the unity of women everywhere and a unified voice that confronts injustice with all its strength and determination. Every attack on a woman is an attack on society as a whole, and every step women take to protect themselves and organize their communities is a step towards freedom, dignity, and justice. Through the philosophy of "Women, Life, Freedom," we declare that the suffering endured by Sudanese women is a global suffering, and that it is the responsibility of all free women worldwide to stand in solidarity with them, amplify their voices, and call on the international community to take immediate and genuine action to save women and protect their rights.

Today, we raise our voices to the international community, and human rights and humanitarian organizations, urging them to take immediate action to end the war and stop all forms of violence against the women of El Fasher and all women in Sudan. The cries of women must be heard, their lives and dignity must be respected, and they must be provided with full support, including safe shelter, urgent medical and psychological care, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to all affected areas.

We also call for an independent and transparent international investigation to uncover the truth and hold all perpetrators accountable, ensuring that no one escapes punishment, and sending a clear message that violations of women's rights will not go unpunished. We further confirm the need to support local feminist initiatives and empower women to actively participate in decision-making and rebuilding society on the foundations of justice and equality. This is essential to ensure a lasting end to violence, and to establish a genuine and comprehensive peace that ends the war, protects women, and guarantees freedom and dignity for all members of society.
