Pedersen meets with Foreign Minister of Damascus government today
The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, meets today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Damascus government, Faisal Al-Miqdad.

Al-Watan newspaper, which is close to the Damascus government, reported that the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, will meet today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Damascus government, Faisal al-Miqdad, after he arrived in Damascus yesterday.
According to sources quoted by the newspaper, Pedersen’s meetings will also include the Russian ambassador to Damascus, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation to develop relations with Syria, Alexander Yefimov, and the Iranian ambassador to Syria, Hussein Akbari.
The visit comes at a time when holding a new round of the “Constitutional Committee” process is a matter of controversy, as Pedersen stresses that it will be held in Geneva, while Russia and Damascus continue to reject this.
Russia says, "Geneva can’t be considered a neutral platform for holding meetings of the Syrian Constitution Discussion Committee."
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin announced to reporters, on the sidelines of the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs, that "the continued search for choosing another location is underway."
