Passenger kills taxi driver in Damascus

Walid Muhammad (57 years old), a resident of the village of Siha near the city of Tirbespiyê, was killed in the capital Damascus. He had been living in the “Binayat al-Kuwaiti” neighborhood, where he worked as a taxi driver for many years.

According to his family’s statement to ANHA agency, contact with him was lost on Friday, July 4, 2025, after one of his neighbors (whose name has not been disclosed) asked him for a ride to the Harasta area in the Damascus countryside. Since then, he had been missing.

After reporting the case to the security authorities, an investigation was launched, which led to the discovery that Walid had been killed by his neighbor. The family confirmed there were no prior disputes with the perpetrator, noting that the relevant authorities have arrested him.

Walid’s body is scheduled to be laid to rest in his home village of Khazna, near the city of Tirbespiyê in the Jazira Canton of North and East Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that Walid had worked transporting passengers between the city of Qamishlo and the capital Damascus for 15 years, and that the murder was carried out by armed men.
