Osman Baydemir: We, Kurds, must unite, support each other

The Kurdish politician Osman Baydemir visited the headquarters of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Qamishlo, in Jazira canton, and he was received by the party's co-chairs, Gharib Hesso and Perwin Youssef.

During the meeting, Baydemir expressed his gratitude to the people of North and East Syria and PYD for their role and efforts in the revolution. He emphasized that the current situation in Turkey and North Kurdistan represents a historic opportunity that must be maximized with rationality and unity. Baydemir added that Rojava has never posed a threat to Turkey, "Despite all the provocations, Rojava people have not targeted Turkey in any way; however, they have shown great patience and restraint. As a Kurd, I express my gratitude for Rojava's resilience."

He pointed out that Ankara, having established political and trade relations with South Kurdistan, could do the same with Rojava, and emphasized, "We hope that Turkey will recognize Rojava and treat it as a neighbor and partner of peace, and this is what we are working towards."

Baydemir recalled the plots and conspiracies hatched against the Kurds during the 1920s, saying, "In short, history repeats itself, but we, the Kurds, must not repeat the past. We must not act with the same mentality we had in the 1920s. Otherwise, we must unite and support one another. Our history is full of both good and bad experiences, and we must learn from the good ones and avoid repeating the bad ones. The opportunity is still available, and we must seize it so that our people can benefit. If our people benefit, the region will also benefit. Stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved unless the Kurds gain their freedom, and if the Kurds do not obtain their rights and guarantee their existence, the region will not be stable either."

Baydemir emphasized, "Many sacrifices have been made, so it is enough, more sacrifices would be unjust. When someone looks at the region, they know that it has witnessed a war, which has not been ended deliberately. This land needs healing and development, which requires stability. This people has waged resistance, and we are grateful that this resistance has been fruitful so far. Now, it is the time for construction."

The co-chairs of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) thanked the people of North Kurdistan for their efforts in the revolution of North and East Syria.
